Fun with Green Beans!

So! Green beans. I love 'em. Here's TWO ways you can make plain green beans a little more...interesting

#1 - Easy, quick.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of green beans
  • A little butter (or you can use olive oil)
Seasonings:
  • Garlic salt
  • Lemon pepper
Instructions:
  1. Place a skillet on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Melt the butter in the skillet and let it heat to the point where you know when you put the green beans in, it will sizzle.
  3. Open the can of green beans and drain all the liquid. Add the beans to the skillet and keep it moving.
  4. Season with garlic salt and lemon pepper as you desire.
  5. Cook for about five minutes or until the green beans are hot, then serve immediately.

Quick, simple, easy.

#2 - A little more complicated

Ingredients:
  • Fresh green beans
  • Half an onion, diced into large chunks
  • Two (or three) slices of bacon, also diced into large chunks
  • A little butter (or olive oil)
Seasonings:
  • Garlic salt
  • Lemon pepper
  • Red cooking wine
Instructions:
  1. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Melt the butter in the skillet and saute the onions.
  3. Once the onions begin to soften, add the bacon and cook until browned.
  4. Add a few hand-fulls of green beans on top of the onions and bacon. Season with garlic salt and lemon pepper. Stir just enough to season evenly.
  5. Cap the green beans with a lid and let it cook for a few minutes.
  6. Once the green beans have cooked for a little while, feel free to start stirring and keeping it moving. Cook until the green beans begin to get soft.
  7. Once the green beans begin to get soft, add about a tablespoon (maybe two) of the red cooking wine and let it simmer for about two minutes. Then, re-cap with the lid and let it simmer Until the green beans are done.
  8. Om nom nom

A little more intense, but well worth it.
